These career planning resources are a sample of what you can find on
the Web.
I encourage you to conduct your own searches with the engine of your
choice, to find relevant, up-to-the moment on-line resources.
(My favorite search engine is google.com).
Links come and go, as thousands of new websites rise and fall
each day. That said, there are some classics that persevere.
I will make sure you are introduced to these. Please contact me
if you find broken links.
You could spend hours exploring sites--if you pursue the links to additional
resources that these sites contain. Have fun surfing.
Self Assessment:
TypeLogic,
is a valuable source of personality preference descriptions. See
also links associated with each description.
A
Plethora of Tests,
provides links to a variety of tests. Complete the Keirsey Temperament
Sorter, a personality preference assessment tool (with a theoretical
base different from the MBTI).
Exploring
the World of Work:
American
Society of Association Executives, offers
a search tool to find professional associations related to
your career interest area. Type-in the most relevant keyword you know.
For example, to search music-related professional associations, type-in
the word "music" into the search tool.
America's
Job Bank,
includes links to other career-related government sites. Links
to labor market information and actual jobs. You can even link
to California Employment Development Department and post a resume.
Occupational Outlook Handbook,
and accompanying "Career Guide" describes occupations, working
conditions, earnings, education required, and more.
The
Onet
What has become of the DOT,
The Onet links to labor market, career guides, and state employment
stats. Site funded by the US government:
California

EDD, Labor Market information,
check here for labor market information specific to California.
Also link to jobs available (by county and job type).
Access
Silicon Valley,
a virtual resource center for persons interested in starting a small
business, has useful links.
Jobstar.org,
is a great place to look at salary surveys. Also, check-out their
links to sites that describe occupations.
Yahoo's
career site
has salary information and a whole lot more. In the spirit of their
effort to provide a reason for people to stay an browse around, Yahoo
has created lots of career resources.
Salary.com,
is
another great source of salary information and more.
One-stop
career resource sites and other links:
Eureka.org,
is
a one-stop career assessment and planning resource available to WVC
students--both on campus and via the web. WVC students can contact me
for the log-on instructions to access these resources for free. Eurkeka
also provides a registration option for other individuals to join.
The
Riley Guide,
is a one-stop shop for links to career-related sites. This is
a great base for research. Go straight to the "A to Z Index."
Look for a long list of links to information on careers, professional
organizations and related sites.
Entertainment
Careers ,
an example of a career-specific website--in this case digital media--as
resource for information about careers and labor market info.
Use
a search engine
to find several related to your own career interest area.
On
the Edge of the Digital Age.
Futurists speak on the how work will be completed in the coming years.
See "The Coming Trauma, Section 3, for interviews re. the "end
of the job," as we know it. Site at StarTribune newspaper.
Resort
Jobs,
has seasonal positions in exotic locations. Most jobs are in the
US. European jobs most often require European passports.
