Welcome to Music Appreciation 010 online, section #63910, at West Valley College!

This course utilizes the internet and accompanying CD-ROMs, titled OnMusic Appreciation , for all instruction.

You may NOT utilize a used CD-ROM for this course!  To purchase the necessary CD-ROMs used to complete this 

course, please go to the West Valley College Bookstore. Students are highly encouraged to purchase

CD-ROMs through the West Valley College Bookstore, rather than a delivery service.  Assigned work will

be maintained to the schedule without any extensions granted due to late arrivals of CD-ROMS. 

 

Once you have purchased the CD-ROMS, instructions are included regarding how to log-in to the curriculum provider.  

Please follow the instructions very carefully.  Students that have not logged in with Connect4education by September 12, 

2008 will be dropped from this course.  Read the "Preamble" provided by Connect4education, online!  Please note that

the course does not officially start until September 2, 2008.  Until that time, the instructor will not be reviewing assignments,

Course Description:

This is a basic introductory course for the student without previous training in music listening or performance. The students are given an opportunity for development of enjoyment and appreciation through active and guided listening to musical concepts and elements from early times to the present. The periods of Pre-Baroque (to 1600); Baroque (1600-1750); Classic (1750-1825); Romantic age (1825-1900); Nationalism; Modern (Jazz, Rock, Electronic Music) are covered.

GUIDELINES FOR EVALUATION!

The instructor will not drop students from this course after September 12, 2008.  It is the student's responsibility!  Dropping this course includes West Valley College and Connect4education.

This course does not use ANGEL. This course meets online only. There are no sessions on campus. This distance learning course is conducted completely via the Internet, e-mail, and telephone conversation. You will be responsible for scheduled assignments, quizzes, and exams which are posted in the "Detailed Index", in your student control panel, with Connect4education.  This course follows a set calendar. It is NOT self-paced.  See the bottom of this page for the detailed index.

STUDENT CONDUCT POLICY

Student Attendance Policy  (refer to the WVC Catalog, p. 181)

Students are expected to attend all sessions of each class.  Instructors may drop students from the class if they fail to attend the first class meeting, or when accumulated unexcused hours of absences exceed ten percent of the total number of hours the class meets during the semester.  Moreover, an instructor may drop from the class any student who fails to attend at least one class session during the first three weeks of instruction.
