I. Course Description:
This course will
provide students with the opportunity to gain muscular strength, flexibility and
endurance for the sport of cheerleading. Training skills for cheering, dancing,
jumping and stunting will be emphasized. Instruction of proper form and
technique will prepare students for cheering performances and competition.
II. Course Objectives:
Upon successful
completion of course requirements students will:
- Demonstrate improved muscular strength, endurance and
flexibility.
- Demonstrate safe and correct techniques for jumping, stunting
and cheerleading.
- Demonstrate the ability to effectively participate with a team.
- Demonstrate leadership skills through teamwork.
- Demonstrate increased self-esteem, mental focus and positive attitude.
- Develop positive relationships with faculty, staff, athletes and students through community service and campus involvement.
III. Course Content:
- Rhythmic warm-up techniques.
- Dances and cheers.
- Muscular strength and endurance activities.
- Flexibility techniques.
- Proper technique for stunts and jumps.
IV. Course Requirements:
- Active class participation is essential to fulfill the course objectives.
- Arrive to class early so you can perform the warm-up portion of the class.
- Athletic shoes and clothes are needed for a safe and effective workout.
- Bring a water bottle to class for proper hydration.
- Do not wear perfume or cologne in class.
- No cell phones or pagers in class.
- Attend athletic events and fund raisers.
- Attend community service and campus wide activities.
- Painting Spirit Signs.
- Recruit new members for upcoming seasons.
