Course Description:
This course provides the overweight student with the opportunity to adopt a healthy, active lifestyle. The goals of the course are to educate overweight students on the health risks associated with obesity, increase overall activity, produce long-term weight loss, promote behavior modification, and improve health and well being. Class is designed for all fitness levels, no pre-requisite required. Credit/No Credit Option.
Course Objectives:
Upon successful completion of course requirements students will:
- Understand the meaning of Overweight/Obesity in the United States.
- Understand the prevalence, causes, and health risks of obesity.
- Achieve safe and effective long-term weight loss.
- Demonstrate knowledge of fitness principles.
- Understand the physiological and psychological benefits of exercise.
- Develop a healthy and active lifestyle.
Course Content:
- Nutrition Education.
- Behavior Modification.
- Physical Activity.
- Record Keeping and Goal Setting.
- Group Activities and Support.
- Lectures and Guest Speakers.
- Pre and Post fitness tests and measurements
Course Requirements:
- Active class participation is essential to fulfill the course objectives.
- Arrive to class on time. Class begins at 3:40 p.m.
- Bring your Weigh Down notebook to each class meeting.
- Athletic shoes and clothes are needed for a safe and effective workout. You will need new running/walking shoes, water bottle, and a towel.
- No workout during finals week. Recipe Makeover for Finals Week.
