We will look at the basic materials of the construction industry such as wood, steel, concrete, glass and then begin to explore the importance of material and fabrication strategies as the starting point for the architectural idea. The class is structured to look at: technical readings, philosophical readings and case studies to explore specific materials, their properties and methods of assembly. We will look at the typical use strategies for materials as well as unique ones and then bring into the discussion an ethical dimension from which to view everything.
