Textbook: Functions Modeling Change, Second Edition by Connally et al.
Add and Drop Dates: The last day to add is February 12, 2004. The last day to drop is April 23, 2004. Please see me by April 20, 2004 if you wish to drop.
Emergency Evacuation: In case of fire or earthquake, you will follow me outside to a designated safe area. We will wait together there for a short time for emergency equipment to reach the campus and then disperse.
Calculators: Calculators are allowed on all homework assignments and examinations. (However, EXACT answers are sometimes required.) The TI-83 (or TI-83 Plus) is the required (recommended) calculator.
ALEKS: You will be expected to assess, (re)develop, and maintain your arithmetic and elementary algebra skills using the Assessment and LEarning in Knowledge Spaces program over an Internet connection in the Mathematics Resource Center. You will be expected to work two hour a week on ALEKS. You should complete the first module by February 12 and the second module by April 29. ALEKS will count for 10% of your grade.
Daily Quizzes: There will be quizzes almost every day the class meets in the classroom. Daily quizzes will count for 10% of your grade.
Homework: Homework will be collected daily (including some graded take-home assignments that you will be expected to do in pairs or small groups) and will count for 10% of your grade.
Tests: There will be four (4) tests and four (4) half-hour quizzes that will count for 50% of your grade. There are no make-up tests or quizzes. If you miss a test or half-hour quiz, your final examination grade will be substituted for that grade. The final examination will count for the remainder of your grade. There may be some graded take-home assignments that you will be expected to do in pairs or small groups. The final examination is scheduled from 7:30-9:30 AM on Wednesday, May 26, 2004 and will be comprehensive.
Grades: Your grade in this course will be based on your ALEKS, daily
quiz, homework, half-hour quiz, test, and final examination scores.
