Romantic Expressionism

Fast Facts

Goya was inspired by Velazquez and Rembrandt. He believed that the violence, greed, and foolishness of contemporary Spanish society had to be examined mercilessly. He witnessed and recorded the invasion of the French lead by Napoleon and its brutal, often bloody, aftermath. Romantic Expressionism is exclusive to Goya.
