 Field Ecology

This course explores local plant and animal communities and includes class discussion followed by field trip(s) to selected regions of California such as desert or coastal (as specified in the schedule). In addition to studying the unique plants and animals of the selected area, other aspects of natural history, including ecology and soil types, will be examined. Students must successfully complete class preparatory requirements in order to participate in the field trip. A transportation and supplies fee may be charged for trip expenses.

The Spring 2024 course explores the local plant and animal communities of the Eastern Sierra and neighboring regions. Communities that will be discusses include desert scrub, sand dunes, and pinyon- juniper woodland. The field component of this course will visit areas of the Owen's Valley, Mono Lake, and Death Valley.

Time: Select Friday's 10:15 AM – 12:20 PM

Room: SM 58

Class meets on the following dates:

  • February 2nd, 9th, & 23th
  • March 1st, 8th and 15th, & 22nd
  • April 3rd
  • Students completing California Naturalist Certificate will present their projects on April 27th

Field component of the course will travel to the Eastern Sierra region March 29th through April 3rd.
