LS 903A- ADAPTED WORD PROCESSING

 

This course is offered on a Credit/No Credit basis.

 

TEXT: Microsoft Word 2000 by Duffy, Cram and Swanson

 

TESTS: Tests will be given over the course of the semester.  Tests will be done on the computer and will involve using the skills learned in class to demonstrate your ability to do basic word processing tasks.  All tests are open book.

 

PROJECT COMPLETION: Projects designed to introduce you to basic word processing tasks will be assigned on a regular basis.  Projects should be completed to the best of your ability and returned to the instructor on or before the due date. You will be expected to make corrections on all projects in order to receive full credit.

 

HOURS: You must attend two hours of lecture each week and complete one hour of lab each week. Experience has shown that many successful students complete extra lab hours per week.  It is your responsibility to sign in each time you put in extra lab hours outside of scheduled class times.

 

ATTENDANCE: Class meetings and lab attendance are mandatory.  Excessive absences may result in your being dropped from the class or receiving a NO CREDIT.

 

OBJECTIVES:  This course will help the student to:

A.   Gain a basic knowledge of the personal computer in general and adaptives used specifically to enhance the ability of the user.

B.    Describe the information needed and planning required operate a computer system.

C.    Use computer terminology to describe appropriate functions of computer systems and applications.

D.   Demonstrate beginning level skill using application programs that provide word processing.

E.    Describe the societal and privacy issues of information systems.

F.    Demonstrate familiarity with software designed for specific personal computers and adaptability to their unique situation.
