Required Course Text EXCELLENCE IN BUSINESS, REVISED EDITION by Bovee, Thill, and Mescon.  Possibility of one field trip; to be announced in lieu of one class time.  Assignment times subject to change.  Homework assignments are mandatory.  Late assignments loose points.

November 25  Read Chapter 15. Draft of report is due.    

 


October 7,
 TEST 1.  CHAPTERS: 1, 2, 3, and 5 (100 PTS.)  Bring an 882 Scantron, a #2 pencil, and a Blue Book, size 8-l/2" x 11".            


December 2    Report is due (100 pts.).   Read Chapter 16

 


October 14, Read Chapter 7 (Chapters 4 and 9 take-home test 2).


December 9    Report Presentation (50 pts.)

 

 


October 21, Read Chapter 8; bring back take-home test 2 on chapters 4 and 9.


December 16   TEST 4. FINAL on CHS. : 13, 15, and 16.  (100 pts.)                     

 


IMPORTANT:  For all tests bring a Green Scan-Tron Form 882-E or ES, a number 2 pencil, and a Blue Book.

I'm on campus the night of class at 5:30 in the General Business office.                


Points to earn:  Test 1—100 pts., Test 2—25 pts.,

Test 3 –100 pts.,  Test 4--Final, 100 pts.,

Summary—50  pts., Report—100 pts., oral presentation--50 pts., homework, classroom participation, and attendance—100 pts.  Total points 625.  

 


Study all the required chapters by the final date, independent of the lecture pace.  Do not forget this!  The above schedule is your required reading, assignment, and study schedule.  You are to choose a company to follow throughout the semester; every week you are to choose three vocabulary words from the chapter and apply them to the company of your choice, and write up a paragraph using those vocabulary words.

  2. Any cheating and plagiarism is an automatic "F" in this course.  The teacher has the option to assign the student an "F" grade for the course for student violations of the "Code of Student Conduct" as published in the West Valley College Catalog, and Schedule of Classes under "Student Responsibilities and Rights."

This is a required first course for all business majors, and it should be taken within the students' first year as a business major.  The course is acceptable for three transfer credits to California State University.   Dropping the course is the students' responsibility, not the instructor's.

 


WRITING ASSIGNMENTS will demonstrate the students' ability to apply skills learned in the course.  Writing opportunities include the following: company vocabulary assignment, homework questions, summary, case studies, and one report.
