However, the use of depuis and depuis quand is more straightforward in French than the corresponding expressions in English. Just remember that, if an event that began in the past is still going on, the verb is in the present tense.

                            

Example: J¹étudie le français depuis deux mois.

 

Contrast this with the more complex English translation:

                             I have been studying French for two months.
