principles of projection printing.
to use different focal length lenses.
to plan and shoot a photographic essay.
Equipment and Supplies
A. Equipment
and chemicals for all lab work will be furnished for you. We will have a few 35mm cameras that can be
checked out.
If you are
using your own camera, it should be an adjustable camera (one with adjustable
F/stops and adjustable shutter speeds).
If your camera is an automatic camera, you should be able to override
the automatic feature. If you can't
override the automatic feature, you will need to use one of the school's
cameras.
B. When
you are working in the lab you are responsible for all equipment in your lab
space. You will be given a drawer
inventory sheet to help you check the contents of your drawer. Make sure that all equipment is present when
you start. Have the lab aide or myself check your space before you leave.
C. You
must present your ID card when
checking out equipment. You are
responsible for all equipment. If it is damaged, lost, or stolen, a fee will be
computed based upon the price of the equipment. Payment will be made to the finance office and applied to the
Photography Department account no later than one week from the fee
determination, or lab use will be denied.
D. You
are required to purchase all expendable photographic supplies. You must supply a portfolio (projects WILL NOT be accepted for grading unless
they are in a portfolio). A list of
supplies will be given to you.
Methods of Instruction
A. Lectures
  Laboratory assignments
  Demonstrations
  Reading assignments
  Specific shooting assignments
Attendance
Attendance for the
first month is very important, as the bulk of your lab time for that period
will be spent listening to lectures, and observing demos. After that you should be here for announced
quizzes and demos.
There will be 7 quizzes given in this class, each one
is worth 20 points. If you miss a quiz, there is no way to make
it up; you will be given a 0 for
that quiz. If you are working in a lab other than your normal lab, and a quiz is
being given, you MUST take the quiz during that lab. The quizzes cover
specific lab lectures and practical applications. Quizzes constitute 20% of
your lab grade.
Projects
There are 5 projects in this class. Each project will have a specific due
date. A handout detailing what has to
be done for each project will be given to you.
All projects are due on the assigned due date. With a valid excuse, I will accept projects no more that ONE (1) week late. Projects are worth 100 points each, with the exception of project 5. Project 5 is double weighted, therefore
worth 200 points. The lab portion of
this photo class is worth 50% of
your Photo 1 grade. Your projects
constitute 80% of your lab grade
Extra Lab Time
Lab work should be
completed in your scheduled lab period. However if space is available, you may
attend another scheduled Photo 1L section. There will be a fifteen minute grace
period at the beginning of each lab period.
Lab spaces will be held during that period. However, if the space is still
empty fifteen minutes into the period, the space will be given to a waiting
student. If you know that you will arrive after the grace period, you may hold
your lab by calling 741-2424. Your lab space will be held for you. You may also complete extra work in the
scheduled 49A Lab.
